Dead but still connected.
I can see the connected icon on the screen but no data transfer occurs. What could be the problem?

The icon only shows that you are connected to your router, can you ping the router? If you can can you ping an external adress?

If you have not already done it, give your router a kick in the pants with a re-boot

Yes, so that.

Start>Accessories>Command Prompt will open a black screen.

Type in 'ping google.com' and see if you get a response, if so, data is being transmitted and received.

Due to errors in windows this happens and this usually happens when you are using your router over USB so use LAN or WLAN.

Sometimes a software error may cause this problem and in this you have to restart your system to check the problem again.

I agree if you can recreate an error or problem then you can start to determine what you need to do to repair the issue. I would start by restarting your sytem if that does not solve the problem turn the router off for a minute or so and then back on and see if that works. Then ping the site as mentioned above to see if you receive any information data packs at all.

There is some software issue for sure so try restart or restore your windows to a previous state. This mostly occurs in usb connections.
