Bandwidth and range are the biggest features.

Go for a ADSL2 capable G+ on pre-N series. See if it has a modem inbuilt and thats always a bonus for easy configuration and set up. Check it has WPA2 ability for security.

A hardware firewall is a good option, and VPN should you need it.

I presume you require wireless router for your laptop.
You need to buy routers based on your needs. Some routers offer superb bandwidth when you are closer to the router while some routers give great coverage but you may not be impressed by its speed.
Whichever the router you may prefer, it should have basic features like WPA encryption, SPI firewall, MAC address blocking etc.

You must first look for wireless capabilities and then for security features like WPA encryption and always change the username and password of your router.

I look for the price as security in most routers has been updated and I also see there should be good range.

Router not only ensures reliable connection, but also provides security for your PC and internet access with its built-in features like firewall etc. I would also suggest like Smith, that you should go for a router with WPA encryption and good firewall protection.

Following on to Nicks post above this is highly important thanks for bringing this to everyones attention. After doing a survey on which feature you look for in a router, security came 1st.This needs to be your high priority specially if your doing internet banking or using any other banking services online.
