Phone Service over Internet
I have a friend who only gets her phone service via the internet using a service called Private Phone. I wanted to know if you might be able to recommend to me a service where the connection is not too poor or tell me what she might be able to do to improve the connection.

Personally I'm surprised people find this as workable, does your friends connections/phone go through the computer or do they have a phone which directly connects to the Broadband Line?

If it goes through the computer, then I guess they would have to have their computer on al the time, I like to give mine rest before the CPU or something burns out.

If it's an actual hardware phone and people can dial your normal land line number, this sounds interesting to me to.

If I understand it right, what your friend has is a VoIP service. It is a phone service that uses internet protocol. Before, the service is not so good. But it has drastically improved a lot since it first started. The phone line is supplied by the high speed broadband service.

yeah I find the quality quite good now, not far off an actual phone line at all.

I regularly speak to a friend in Thailand and it's a really good connection we always get. No lag or anything over a normal call.

And of course for free! (skype).

Really cannot complain at all.

It is all via internet, the incoming calls go to VM and then you can listen to them and make outgoing calls. I am sure that she gives the CPU a rest and does not leave on.

Any VOIP client can help you like skype and mig33. They both provide good service.
