What is a Data Center?
Listening to a voice recording of a guy complain that his server was down, and he said that it was the hosts fault (GoDaddy) as they had taken down the Data Centre.

What is a Data Centre, just a place where they house all the servers?

Any ideas on how they are constructed and link their servers together, I read big sites use multiple servers which are inter-connected.

A "Data Centre" can be anything from a server in someone's back bedroom to a proper enterprise class outfit, its just a name really but yes its basically a place where you put servers.

Proper data centre's though will have multiple power providers, backup generators, multiple internet providers, proper fire protection etc.

How they are setup is really a matter for each company/person as its down to personal choice basically its loads of cables everywhere :-) You may find this link helpful. Ours is a tier 3/4 DC

Thanks for the great info. I guess these kind of images are Data Centres then:-

Would be cool to set up a mini one at home, but as always the connection is the biggest factor, lines cost a fortune. Be cool to mess around with though.

God I'm such a geek
