Do you have a high number of other USB devices plugged in? Sometimes if you have too many plugged in, peripherals momentarily lose power, which would result in you loosing your current connection.

Do you know what wattage your computers PSU is?

Is this Modem part of the Router you have mentioned in the other thread?

I have experienced that when I do not connect certain USB devices into the same USB socket on which I did the original installation on, they sometimes do not work.. Don't ask me why, seems strange to me as well, but it has happened.

The devices which this occurred on where USB DSL modem and a Web Cam.

Very true, I have experienced the same thing. I think that when you originally hook it up and run the install for the peripheral that it links it somehow. So try using the same one that you might have used before.

I think USB is a good interface and will be around for a lonf time. It will be improved allowing faster data transfer, but it's mass market now, many peripherals use it and so products will use it for a long time in the foreseeable future.

USB has a great future and even I use 2-3 devices simultaneously and have never had this sort of problem but in continuous connections like internet there can be problems as there are interrupts in processor due to which usb doesn't get the required connection.

Facing problem with a modem installed on the USB port of the computer is not a common problem but not a unique as many are facing it.

There will problems for sure if you try connecting from usb so use lan or wlan as with usb connections there are interrupts from the processor.
