24mb broadband service, anyone heard of this?
Anyone know anything about a new service being offered by http://www.domainsrforever.com, I use them for my domain name, and recently they have advertised broadband reaching speeds of 24mb!! Is this real?

Yes, 24Mb is coming, but only where the provider has their own hardware in your local exchange (BT haven't reached that speed yet). As listed on the broadband access page, UK Online and BeThere (current pilot) are planning to roll out services, as allegedly are Bulldog.

24 Meg is a gimmick. Firstly, you have to be sitting on top of a BT telestation to qualify for similar speeds

there are virtually no applications available that require such speeds. 8 Mbps is more than ample for video streaming, file sharing etc.

Never heard of BeThere. Appears to be a start-up with no network and a few Swedes that have moved to London. Caveat Emptor!

That is true.. but then the same argument goes for all ADSL... say you sign up for the now-standard 2MB from... BT. If you don't live close to BT's ADSL exchange, then you won't get 2MB either.

At the moment, 8MB should be fast enough for most things, apart from downloading high definition movies.

The founder of BeThere has an ISP in some nordic country which he transformed from a small-time company to one with millions of subscribers, so I have some faith in him.

Anyways, if anyone is signing up for it... what they don't tell you on the form is that if you enter a member's email address, you get 1 month free (BeThere seems to be really keen on word of mouth advertising..)
