Was AOL ever good? After all it didnt attract the tag Arseholes on Line for nothing :-)

CPW find it pretty hard to run their own systems let alone a big one like AOL so I imagine that has had some down grading in quality, however I'm more thinking port throttling and traffic shaping is more to blame than quality of service.

But who would buy it? It's an aweful company, so I don't see why anyone would want to pay for a bad reputation.

AOL, otherwise known as AOL Time Warner is a market share blocker. Time Warner use it as an advertisement flotilla and asset mine when profits look grim. Still, despite being a lumbering dinosaur that everyone apparently hates, AOL still generates revenues in excess of $10 billion. If anyone wanted it, and I'm sure they do, they could never afford it.

Unless things turn around, most of AOL's ISP assets will evaporate in a decade or less and they'll just be trading on the web name alone...like google.

AOL was good in the very early 90's. But has steadily went down hill over the years. The only reason it was good is because it was one of the first WWW access that were available. But after the first couple of years, say 1993 is when it really started changing.

yeah..tats true..but they are still in 90s...they are not doing well with customer service..the internet service they provided experiences loads of problem..once i called the customer care when my connection got dropped..they came to fix it after couple of weeks.. ...AOL should do something to enhance their service..
