IE If you are contracted for 2 years @ £15 per month and you want to leave at the end of Year 1 you would need to pay £180 (£15*12 months) to get out of the contract.

Failure to do this and say you just cancel the direct debit, will end up the company more than likely taking you to court and getting a CCJ against you thus screwing up your credit record.

If you were moving and you cant migrate the contract (Which is often the case) they may take a different view, but it would still be a hefty amount to pay back.

Thank you for the warning!

The idea will be to migrate the contract to the new address. rather than cancel it. Would that be possible?

You'd still be required to pay the remainder of the contract.

Personally, I wouldn't join AOL for any laptop, however good, and certainly not a cheap $300 one.

It depends on what your ISP's policies are. Some ISP's will let you change address without charging, others wont.

And I agree with you Hazel!

So basically you'd be required to pay and still sign up for a new policy. OK, I do not feel too bad about missing that particular boat (with Orange). In fact, I am quite relieved.

Basically, yes. If you moved to a new address they would still charge you for the remainder of the policy. They may allow you to migrate the contract to a new address, but that wouldn't cancel it.

I was not interested in cancelling it, just moving to a new address with the broadband contract. You would have thought that there would be a big notice about what happens if you move.
