Yes you should be fine, I've done this on a few occasions.
Search the make and model of the router you plan to use on Google and see if you can find some drivers which aren't produced by the ISP, but by the Routers manufacturer.
Often the ISP's software auto installs there own pieces of code, not a major problem as you can change the dial settings in Windows, but it's nice to not have to do this if you don't need.
